Guideline-based care, for children with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), to prevent painful vasooclusive crisis (VOC) and provide treatment in a timely manner is infrequently followed, resulting in more frequent, prolonged pain and higher rates of Emergency Department visits and hospitalizations.
